My husband and I have converted our living room into an art gallery, which we call the Zosima Gallery. It's open to the public, on occasion, like tonight, for example. We have hosted one opening and will be hosting a happy hour show tonight (after we get home from work/school). We hope to grow this into a sort of humanities community center, with art exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, readings, discussions and other sorts of creative sharing.
Our first show is up right now, featuring works by Daniel Bernard Gray, which are viewable here.
Our purpose statement is:
The Zosima Gallery nurtures and promotes creative work that addresses the human experience. Through exhibiting visual art and hosting events — artist receptions, readings, lectures, film screenings, performances and discussions — the gallery promotes not only the work of local artists and writers but also the consideration of their ideas by a wider community. It is a place where people come together to look, think, learn and grow.If you or someone you know is interested in sharing work that would contribute to this kind of dialogue, please email us at zosimagallery@gmail.com. I'll be blogging about the process of coming up with this idea and the steps we took to create the gallery, including costs, successes and failures, and advice from other house-gallery owners.
Here's Daniel giving a little tour of the exhibition space:
